Moscow, September 14. Deputy head of the defense Ministry of Russia Alexander Fomin explained why the Russian-Belarusian military exercises called "West-2017". About it reports the edition of Deutsche Welle.
According to him, the military exercises are totally peaceful, and their main purpose is defense. Fomin strongly emphasized that there is no need to create hype around the name.
"West" should not be understood in the broad political sense as a geographical term, which includes countries of the West, EU or NATO", — he explained.
He noted that the name of the exercise means the West of the Russian Federation and Belarus, which is located farther to the West.
Answering a reporter's question about whether the people of Eastern Europe and the Baltic countries to be calm, in view of the teachings Fomin stressed that, "naturally, can be calm."
